When Guly first moved from Argentina to Vienna, she was juggling a lot — working as a barkeeper while studying German, all while trying to restart her career in a new continent. Her background was in project coordination for legal and language service firms — a very niche area. Everyone told her she needed either a master’s degree or fluent German to even stand a chance.
In fact, Guly was already conversational in German, using it every day in her gastronomy work. But the market didn’t seem to care.
Through our work together, she shifted her strategy: focusing on networking and creating a proactive one-pager that showcased what she can bring to the table. The result? The hiring manager was so impressed they decided to hire her outright — they never even posted the job ad.
I’m truly proud of the work we did together, and even prouder of how Guly showed up for herself. Here’s her story, in her own words:
When I first arrived in Vienna, I carried with me a bucket full of hope and optimism. I trusted that my skills, training, and experience would be enough to convince the Austrian job market, even if I lacked fluency in German.
However, only a few weeks into my job search, I realized how challenging it would be. Speaking German wasn’t just an advantage—it was a requirement, only sometimes overlooked for very specific, highly sought-after expertise. After a few months without success, I found myself working in the gastronomy industry, hoping at least to improve my German.
It was then—perhaps fate, or just good fortune—that a dear friend recommended Chiara. At first, I didn’t fully understand what she offered: “Coaching expats into the German-speaking job market”? It sounded weirdly specific.
But once I started working with her, everything changed.
Chiara gave me the tools to present my true value, to stop taking rejections personally, and to learn how to actually stand out in a highly competitive market.
